“At Chemours, we aren’t afraid to set bold goals. Without boldness, there can be no rewards.”

When Sameer Ralhan looks back on what brought him to where he is today, he marvels: “My career has gone through a lot of twists and turns.”

It’s not just his career. Sameer’s life also followed a serpentine course. Growing up amid unrest in Punjab, India, Sameer wondered, “What leads human beings to do certain things?” Sameer found his answers in the connection between human behavior and economic conditions.

It should come as no surprise then that, after beginning his career as a chemical engineer in chemical plants near the US Gulf Coast, Sameer hungered to better understand the economics of the industry in which he worked. Inspired, he turned to the University of Chicago Booth School of Business for an MBA to add another degree to his already impressive educational resume: MS and PhD degrees in chemical engineering from Rice University and a BTech in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology.

Another turn followed. Sameer left the chemistry industry and went to Wall Street. He spent ten years there, in an investment banking role at Bank of America and, later, at Goldman Sachs where he advised companies in the chemicals and basic materials sectors on M&A, portfolio transformations, corporate finance, and capital markets transactions. From that perch, Sameer saw deep into corporate decision-making, gaining firsthand knowledge of how companies and management teams make big strategic decisions. He saw good choices and bad and learned the perils of shortsighted thinking. The lessons Sameer learned stayed with him and served him well in yet another turn.

Sameer joined Chemours in 2014, returning to work in the industry in which he began his career. His breadth of experience has served him—and Chemours—well. Armed with an engineer’s understanding of the work, an MBA’s appreciation for the organization, and a Wall Street professional’s knowledge of finance, Sameer has held positions of increasing responsibility across strategy, M&A, portfolio transformation, corporate finance matters, and capital markets transactions. He served as a key member of the executive team that led the company's five-point transformation plan. Sameer assumed direct responsibility for leading portfolio transformation, divestiture efforts, and financing activities.

Today, as senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Chemours, Sameer strongly believes in the discipline of cash flow generation, operational efficiency, and the power of transformation to drive organic growth. For him, this means not only a focus on investments and Chemours portfolio growth, but also a commitment to fostering a company culture of collective entrepreneurship.

Backed by the contributions of his colleagues, Sameer is inspired by the tremendous opportunity Chemours has to continue to enable the ever-evolving essentials of modern society, improving the economic status and security of millions along the way.
